- It is proposed to delete 4.2 (f) as in practice a leading Councillor has not been elected by the Local Authority Councillors.
- It is proposed to amend 4.2 (g) to read as follows
‘up to nine additional members to be co-opted by the Regional Executive. Co-opted members shall have the same rights, including voting rights, as elected members. The power of co-option shall be used to ensure that there is member of the Executive with a responsibility for liaison with a geographic set of Local Parties and related Council Groups within the Region where no Sub-Regional Group exists, and, inter alia, to ensure that there is fair representation of underrepresented communities in the Region, taking into account race, religion, age, disability, gender or sexual orientation and that this would create a composition of the Executive that reflects the community within the Region, and to ensure that the Executive includes at least one principal Councillor’

To arrive by noon on Tuesday 12th November 2024. The elections follow the rules of the Western Counties Constitution.
Nominations will be accepted at the AGM on Saturday 16th November however if possible, please send these in advance.

The Chair - of the Regional Party. This is a major leadership role in the region, advancing the Liberal Democrat cause across a wide area. The Chair will represent the region at a national level, chair the Regional Executive and the Regional Conference and shall be jointly responsible with the Treasurer for the Region‘s compliance with the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. They are the Region‘s principal executive officer.
Regional Party Treasurer - The Regional Treasurer's role is to have strategic ownership of expenditure and income, such as preparing budgets and financial targets for discussion by others and advising on the implications of spending decisions. The treasurer is also responsible for the practical side of managing the regional party's finances, such as paying in bills, and producing financial reports.
Chair of the Regional Candidates Committee - The Chair of the Regional Candidates Committee shall be responsible for the approval and selection of Parliamentary Candidates and shall be the Region‘s representative member on the English Candidates Committee.
Six ordinary members of the executive - The Regional Executive shall be responsible, subject to the authority of the Regional Conference and in compliance with the Party Constitution and with the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, for directing, co-ordinating and implementing the work of the Regional Party. The Regional Executive shall develop, maintain and implement a strategic plan for the Region. It is expected that ordinary members volunteer to sit on one of the committees of the executive.

Call for nominations for English Council 2025
The Region is entitled to select 18 representatives to English Council for the year 2025. Further information on the English Council can be found on this link.
The English Council convenes three times a year on a Saturday. Preparation is required for each meeting with deadlines for submitting constitutional, regular motions and amendments - you can see the current schedule HERE. Papers are circulated ahead of the meeting. Each meeting takes place from 10:30am - 2.30pm (including a half hour lunch break), though time should be allowed for the debates to overrun.
It would be helpful if you have a strong knowledge of the internal procedures and structures of the English Party. Otherwise, a keen eye for detail, rounded communication skills and analytical skills are all desirable.
